There is some speculation regarding the symbolism of this particular dolly.
It has been described as "Sword and Ring" (as in the style of some Celtic
brooches) and an alternative suggestion is that the circle represents the sun, since
this is required for a good harvest. However, given that Corn Dollies were probably
Pagan fertility symbols, it is equally possible that the design symbolises the sexual
act of creation.
